This might be the first poll that was actually hard for me but I have to say X edges it out. IX is one of the best games of all time but FFX brought more new and original ideas to the table.

I wanted to vote with Dat Matt in honour of populating the thread with Yuru Yuri gifs, but unfortunately he voted the wrong way.

For you see, Final Fantasy IX has Zidane. Final Fantasy X has Tidus. Therefore it is impossible for X to be better.

In fact I do technically agree, Final Fantasy X is mechanically stronger pretty much everywhere, and has a better overall narrative. It's just... no FFIX. The character development in IX is just completely unparalleled. It was great in X, don't get me wrong, but even so on another level in IX.

And IX had the better soundtrack.

We could have been friends, Fox. To be fair though, the only reason my vote went to X was cause we're playing it right now for the lets play. I would have voted IX had we not done this lets play.
