Thread: PAX FFXV

    Default PAX FFXV

PAX streams an interview about FFXV right now.

Interestingly enough the guy there said Cindy again. Even though Shidonii is Cidney. And Hajime Tabata even pointed about the "Cid" part months ago. Well, let's wait. Maybe they will stay true to the intention in the final version.

Previews from the major news outlets are starting to come out. So far the consensus is...

    Overwhelmingly positive

Sounds like the combat does indeed have the required depth, the world is interesting, and I've seen at least three different articles use the phrase: "It just feels so Final Fantasy". Ladies and gentlemen, I think the time has come to allow ourselves to believe a little bit. Here's a quick selection:

Favorite part of the presentation was the 8bit version of the FFXV gang :P

All the previews from the press have been extremely positive, it really does seem like it's going to live up to the hype. Just gotta hope the story is amazing aswell.

    EDIT:

My problem with the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos of the Final Fantasy 13 games was that there was never a moment where its world came to life for me, where it ever felt like it existed beyond the confines of the area I found myself in. Midgar, Besaid, Balamb, Narshe - these earlier locales all felt like places where people lived and things happened. Duscae feels like that too.
Where a few of the past series entries felt like you were being harried down a long corridor, funnelled from one fight to another, Final Fantasy 15 seems to appreciate the quieter moments as much as the whirl of battle or the excitement of exploring: cooking, wandering, telling stories, standing still and looking.
It just feels like Final Fantasy through and through. Unfortunately, Square Enix may have inadvertently shot itself in the foot; while the studio was undoubtedly hoping this teaser would tide us over until the full release, it’s done the exact opposite.
Prompto shows more personality in a single attack move than Lightning did in three damn games
Final Fantasy XV feels like a Final Fantasy game. And it does. It's grand, yet it doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. It's totally unorthodox, totally weird, and, from what I've played so far, totally welcome.
    I'm sold

Also if anyone wants to watch the actual panel it's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lHI3k-2NVw

I just want to add that all the footage was in HD and looked amazing, so when the demo comes around expect your eyes to fall out of your head from it's glory.

IGN's thoughts after 3 hours with the demo. I wonder if the car's on the road can hit you? He came pretty close at the end of this video.

This could be setting myself up for disappointment big time, but this is shaping up to be a possible contender for my favorite in the series. I'm really digging the monster and world design, and the gameplay looks like a lot of fun. It all depends on the characters and stories from this point, but I can see myself having a ton of fun just exploring the world even if those things turn out kind of bad.

It does feel weird seeing them just pop into a normal looking gas station. It made me kind of chuckle.

The blend with fantasy and reality is so weird. So far it looks cool though. Kind of excited to play the demo.

I'm in the same boat, even tho i've been a FF fan since the PS1 era I never really had much love for the ATB battle systems. I mean I enjoyed playing the games of course, but alot of the time it just felt like an inconvenience i had to get through before I could explore more of the world and see more of the story. So moving to a more Kingdom Hearts-esque system was a dream come true for me.

Mix that with the awesome monster designs (most of which are old FF monsters from the classic FF's) and the modern aesthetic (very 7,8ish) and it's definitely got the potential to be my favourite FF ever.

The ONLY thing that could screw it all up for me is the story and character development. I haven't enjoyed that in any mainline FF since 10. I'm praying it will be well done tho!!! I want to feel emotionally devastated if a character dies.....as weird as that sounds haha.

What I really like about all the impressions coming out of PAX is they have pretty much alleviated all of my gameplay related concerns. Is the combat system going to have enough depth? Is there going to be enough customisation? Is warping going to be useful is the AI going to be good enough without a Gambit system?

All of those seem to be coming back as a solid yes. Makes me feel pretty good. Story and characters still very much up in the air but... sounds like it's going to be fun at the very least.
