I mean the company that brought you Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, also brought you The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel, didn't it? But what people fail to understand is, the WB is probably letting Zack Snyder do his own thing with Batman V Superman, I mean they brought in a new writer for BvS: Dawn of Justice, and writer/director David Ayer will be responsible for Suicide Squad. The DC Cinematic Universe is nothing like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where they (Marvel) have to have films that "fit," solely within that universe, which is why Edgar Wright left the Ant-Man project and we have that person who directed "Yes Man," in the director's chair.

The difference between the Marvel movies and DC's plan is that the Marvel stuff came about much more organically. The Marvel stuff started with Iron Man and an Avengers teaser at the end that could have gone no where if Iron Man was a flop. Instead, it was outstanding and it really launched Thor and Captain America as the set up to an Avengers film. With the huge success of Avengers, Marvel ran with it and that's why you see films for Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant Man, and eventually Black Panther, etc.

On the other hand, DC (with Warner Bros., but it's not just WB) is trying to capitalize on the super hero 'craze' that Marvel started. The Nolan Batman films really have nothing to do with this and were ongoing prior to Marvel's success, and can't really be considered part of this. The DC push started with Man of Steel, which was not as nearly as good as Iron Man and didn't really set the table for an eventual Justice League film. But, seeing money out there to be made, DC constructed a multi-hero franchise before it was even hyped, as opposed to Marvel's franchise going with the hype. Instead of teasing here and there and seeing where it goes, we now have DC's multi-year plan for Justice League related movies and we've only seen one so far (and a subpar one at that). That puts a lot of pressure on DC and WB to make the Justice League/Suicide Squad arc really good. Marvel laid the foundation and showed that it has the ability to make great films (Iron Man, Thor) before taking it to the next level but DC/WB is already going for the next level before showing us any of that. That's why people have little faith in the DC/WB plan.

The directors are still using the style of The Dark Knight Trilogy as sort of a template though. I believe it was ScreenRant's Kofi Outlaw who said that Man of Steel was, "Batman Begins with Superman." And Margot Robbie told MTV News that Suicide Squad was more "Dark Knight" than Avengers.
