    Default Mad Pony

Why is the Mad Pony mad? Did he not know that friendship was magic? Does he have no friends? Did Garland kill his family? Did he see the future and saw what Final Fantasy would become? Did both his parents die right in front of him?

Discuss your theories about Mad Pony here.

I suspect that his anger actually stems from a deep hatred of himself. He wishes he was a higher level, and posed more of a threat to the party. He's jealous of the enemies on the Peninsula of Power, who evicted him from their home.

He's mad because you just won't leave him alone.

I believe mad, in this case, means "insane" rather than "angry".

So there is only one logical explanation.

If the pony witnessed it's parent's murder, it wouldn't be Mad Pony, it'd be Bat Stallion.

It's called Mad Pony, because the original name was Crazy Horse. When they localized it for the West, they didn't want to upset anyone by naming a monster after a much revered Lakota hero. However, in all the remakes, they reinstated the Crazy Horse name.

I choose to believe the Japanese intentionally named it after an indian warrior.

I genuinely don't know if this is true or not.

Could be a D&D reference, considering how much FF1 rips off from it. I don't recall anything about mad ponies in D&D, though.

I like to believe it's because there wasn't enough character spaces for "Extremely Enthusiastic Equus."

I like Mad Pony better than Crazy Horse because I can make MLP jokes.
