Actually I rescind my previous comment. The Lion of the Night is correct.

All of the religions seem like a bunch of crock except for the Lord of Light. There's some serious magic behind that one. The Seven Gods seem like the most useless, and, perhaps not coincidentally, is the most prevalent in Westeros.

The Old Gods seem to have some magic powers too - the stuff that Bran is doing.

That's the Old Gods? I thought that was related to the children of the first men (I think that's what it's called). Or are they the same?

The Old Gods are the gods of the Children of the Forest. The whole Weirwood faces thing was their doing to let the Old Gods see what was happening. A Dance With Dragons spoilerBran and co are able to see what is happening through the faces in trees at any point in history.

The old Gods are the main religion of the North and beyond the wall. the Andals spread the 7 when they invaded Westeros however many thousand years ago.

It's been hard to keep track of all the religions involved though that theory about the Drowned God being the Great Other has an interesting side effect since don't the Greyjoys possess a certain horn capable of breaking a certain Wall which would allow a certain group free access to Westeros?

Maybe the song of ice and fire is really about the Gods themselves?

    Take care all.

Starting to think all the Gods have powers in this series. Which ones have shown power so far?

    - Old Gods
    - Lord of Light
    - The Many Faced God

Not sure if that witchlady who buggered around with Dany had any religion-based magic goin' on or not.
    Bow before the mighty Javoo!
