Default Any Tips For A First Time Player?

    Hello all,

I will soon be playing Final Fantasy VI for the first time ever. Any tips or information I should know about that will make my playthrough easier? Thanks in advance for any replies!

By the way, I will be playing the Playstation One version of this game, if that means anything.

When you get the "items that give you magic", try to make sure that those that give you stat bonuses upon levelup are equipped when you level up.

I'm not sure if the PS1 version has the same bugs as the SNES version, but on SNES, the evasion stat is broken and doesn't actually do anything. Instead, magic evasion is used to calculate both evasion and magic evasion. In short: don't waste equipment slots on things that give you regular evasion.

It's a pretty straightforward game, not very difficult for the most part. The Fire Dance blitz can devastate most large groups of random encounters, and pummel/aurabolt is good for bosses. Don't forget to use the Tools command either. Autocrossbow is really good for groups early in the game, and Drill is good for single targets.

If you are hurt, use a Tonic or a Dried Meat or a Potion or an X-Potion or an Elixir or a Megalixir or a Sleeping Bag or a Tent.
If you are low on magic points, use a Tincture or an Ether or an X-Ether or an Elixir or a Megalixir or a Sleeping Bag or a Tent.
If you are poisoned, use an Antidote or a Remedy.
If you are muted, use an Echo Screen or a Remedy.
If you are blinded, use an Eyedrop or a Remedy.
If you are wounded, use a Phoenix Down.
If you are impped, use a Green Cherry.
If you are zombified, use a Revivify.
If you are petrified, use a Soft or a Remedy.

Or think of it this way:

Use a Tonic if you are hurt.
Use a Dried Meat if you are hurt.
Use a Potion if you are hurt.
Use an X-Potion if you are hurt.
Use an Elixir if you are hurt or low on magic points.
Use a Megalixir if you are hurt or low on magic points.
Use a Sleeping Bag if you are hurt or low on magic points.
Use a Tent if you are hurt or low on magic points.
Use a Tincture if you are low on magic points.
Use an Ether if you are low on magic points.
Use a X-Ether if you are low on magic points.
Use and Antidote if you are poisoned.
use an Echo Screen if you are muted.
Use an Eyedrop if you are blinded.
Use a Phoenix Down if you are wounded.
Use a Green Cherry if you are impped.
Use a Revivify if you are zombified.
Use a Soft if you are petrified.
Use a Remedy if you are poisoned or are muted or are blind or are petrified.

Oh, and don't let all of your characters die.

Use all of the characters, and keep levelling them. Don't let them fall behind, or you will end up seriously regretting it at a certain point later on in the game.

Have fun. Final Fantasy VI is a special experience. I can only imagine the excitement you'll be feeling playing through it for the first time. It was a long, long, loooong time ago for me.

it's not that hard a game if you know your stuff. Try to exploit elemental weaknesses when you can. Machines are weak against Thunder, bombs against ice, etc.

Yeah, you should be good without min-maxing stats. Just keep on going and you'll be fine It's one of the easiest FFs.

To go along with FM's post, several of those status ailments can be gotten rid of just be equipping a relic that prevents them, so no item use needed.

If your party was ailment free when you load your game, resetting your game will also remove any status ailments.

Also you can buy an Esper in the southern contanant for 10,000 GP, or wait and buy it later for 10. Also say no repeatedly when asked to join the Retruners.

There is a Jurassic Park in this game. It's good for late-game grinding. And obtaining a fun relic

Also the park is easier when a little someone has a special relic equipped.

Don't believe anyone who tells you the game is easy because it's not that smurfing easy!
