Anyway, I like how varied my team is when it comes to type, but I'm not a fan of the color scheme :/

But go and take a look at the first page. Everyone has nice, varied, warm colors. My Pokemon are all gray and blue

And come on now. There's nothing wrong with some lovely grey and blue. Grey is very complimentary as a color, and blue, depending on the shade, can be light and summery or more refined and sophisticated.

I always give them like normal names based on the first letter of their name. So for Squirtle it would be like Sam and Charmander would be Charles and Bulbasaur would be Brian or something. I read a humourous article about Pokemon naming and it was saying people like me give names based on who we would have a drink with. "Squirtle? I don't wanna drink with a Squirtle. But a Sam I could have a drink with"

I usually name my pokemon after stars in the sky. Formalhaut always goes to my starter, and Antares is usually reserved for that generation's stock bird pokemon.
