But about the movie itself, we really enjoyed it. I particularly like Ant-Man's origins: I'm not a comic book or Marvel nerd, so I didn't know about Ant-Man until this film. I liked how he was a criminal looking for redemption to connect back to his daughter (sounds cliche, but it does work). It certainly beats 'playboy millionaire' or 'demigod'.
And I really loved the supporting comic relief. The two skits with Luis were hilarious: the one with the wine-tasting and the one in the art gallery. It was just off-beat and humorous.
Which really sums up much of the film. I agree with other posters, I get an off-beat, light sense from the film, much like Guardians of the Galaxy, though I think Ant-Man was even more casual. It certainly has tense moments, but you already felt like the humor was never quite far away: like that part when Scott Lang interrupts a touching bonding moment between Dr. Hank and his daughter. Arguably the saddest part of the film was when Scott's beloved helicopter ant Anthony died.
Seriously, the film made me sad about an ant dying. I really liked it, easily one of the best Marvel films I've seen (out of Iron Man 1, The Avengers 1 and Guardians of the Galaxy). It's really a toss-up between this and Guardians of the Galaxy. I don't know, I have a thing for off-beat humor. I don't like it when things take themselves too seriously sometimes.
