Does Slenderman count as survival horror?

We all used to play that a LOT during sixth form. In free periods - when we should have been studying or revising - we'd gather in the computer room, turn off all the lights, and gather round a computer screen whilst someone played Slenderman.

The experience was surprisingly good fun. I did a similar thing recently with a bunch of friends playing Five Nights at Freddy's, on a big telly. We took turns playing, whilst the others would shout out things like "CLOSE THE DOOR ON THE LEFT RIGHT NOW!" from the sofa.

    Good times.

Never really got into them. I really want to play a good one. I feel a good horror game should be cinematic in nature. So until someone makes a Virtual Reality horror game, I don't think anything will come close to impressing me. (Allison Road for VR is what im hyped for)

I noticed that trend in a lot of things. Walking Dead, The Last of Us, etc. People are the real trout you need to worry about, the zombies are just an afterthought. Well, I guess that isn't as apparent in the Last of Us as it is The Walking Dead, but still.
This video is form the very early era of DayZ SA but, I think it captures the "horror" part so well.

But then you also have people who play as Heros and help others!

Dino Crisis 1 was my favourite. Playing that when I was a kid, I used to have to pause the game out of fear when the T-Rex was chasing me and I had gotten myself stuck in a corner.

And to clarify: Both Dino Crisis 1 and 2 were excellent games for different reasons. I'm certainly a fan of the original more, but I'll still pick up 2 from time to time.
