Same here. I always go for the nicest endings, but for a first playthrough I'd recommend just to play it by ear and see what happens. You can always play a 'perfect' play later.
That's what I recommend. I don't follow my own advice, because I hate getting less than second best, so I get the best decisions and choices even on a first playthrough.
