But this hasn't happened though, the film hasn't done that well at all really. As you mention there are a lot of competing films at the moment and though plenty of films iwth poor reviews rake it in (*coughTransformersfranchisecough*) there is a point where toxic word of mouth becomes so great it hobbles a film's chances. Plus Adam Sandler's star might finally be on the wane, only Grown Ups 2 has really done well for him in the last few years.
I've seen plenty of people online say they enjoyed the film despite the criticism its received, which is what I'm referring to. Never claimed that led to a good showing. Just that the negative press has, as apparent from several people tweeting about it while it was trending on Twitter, got more people interested in seeing it than the actual trailers for the movie.
