Default Music and Time of Day

A lot of people pick their music based on their mood, but I tend to pick mine based on the time of day. Does anyone else do this and if so what kind of music do you choose?

For mornings I find myself listening to contemporary jazz a lot like stuff from Om Lounge, maybe a little Gramatik. It's very relaxing, but also upbeat enough so I don't fall asleep. In the afternoon I tend to listen to a lot of dance music like stuff from Odesza. In the evenings I listen to a bit of hip hop, dance stuff, and maybe rock but they all have to be super upbeat as Im my energy level tends to be the highest during the evening.

Not really, although I enjoy falling asleep to the album Isometric by Jake Bowen. It's incredibly relaxing and chilled.

No. I pick music based on what I do, and to some extent my mood. I have driving music, biking music, gaming music.

Hmm, that is a good point. Thinking about it, I tend to listen to classical/instrumental music more in the evening. Listening to lyrics takes concentration; with string or percussion you can let your mind wander.

I don't pick music based on time of day, though I do tend to listen to sad songs at night when i'm feeling reflective or living in my head. It's really cathartic when i'm alone at night and can just indulge on my emotions.

If it's early in the morning, anything tranquil gets played. Anything goes for the rest of the day, though I used to also play something serene before I went to bed when I was back in college.

Sort of, but it's out of convenience more than anything. I listen to Spotify all day at work because I have my phone with me, and I usually just stick it on one of my standby playlists. When I'm at home I can pick and choose a little more, maybe listen to stuff that I own or stuff that isn't on Spotify. (Taylor Swift I am looking at you )

Not necessarily time of day, but I get in the mood for certain music as soon as a new season starts (or when the weather reflects said season for a few days in a row). Quick examples...

    Fall:

The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails
    Just about any Opeth album
    Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson

    Winter:

Game music that does a good job representing snowy/cold weather.
Lots of Nine Inch Nails B sides and remixes

    Spring:

    Upbeat Cure songs
    Stuff with acoustic guitars
Ambient music, but not too ambient

    Summer:

Progressive rock. Lots and lots of progressive rock. Though I listen to it all year it really hits me hard during the summer. Especially older stuff.
Songs with a pretty decent tempo that may or may not be electronic.
    Old school rap.
    New Wave 80s music.

On a morning if I'm getting ready for work I'll listen to some upbeat pop songs just to wake me up and to have a little bop and sing to. On a night before bed I like slow music - often piano-ey to wind down!

For my commute at the moment I can't get enough of Taylor Swift's 1989 as it has a really nice blend of poppy and more slow stuff. I love it.

Yeah seasons definitely reflect what I listen to too. Most notably the winter I find myself obviously listening to more Christmas stuff from people like Nat King Cole. Summer I listen to a lot of dance music.
