I'm bi, probably technically pan, but nowadays there are that many 'sexuals' that it's just easier to say bi. Sexuality is fluid though and I fully believe that you can have stages in life of feeling 100% straight or 100% gay and then one day you're just like 60/40 or something. I've kissed a lot of girls - and not in the 'omg all girls kiss girls lel' way. It was smurfing hot 10/10 would do again and again.

Not to belittle how anyone defines their sexual orientation (go with whatever is comfortable), but with all the different weird sounding definitions going round it legit feels like a parody thread. I feel like it could be a sketch.

As for me I'm a straight, white male age 18-49, everyone listens to me, no matter how dumb my suggestions are.

I never understand what most these terms mean and when I look them up I forget them almost immediately. I remember seeing some thread here where someone said they were...something or other... and I was like 'wow I didn't know she was that' but then I looked it up and it was just some newage scientific way of saying heterosexual.

You boink who you boink. And if you feel like who you boink is a defining characteristic of your being then that's great. If not, that's great too.

Its also pretty hard for me to catch feelings. I haven't had recognizable, non-fleeting feelings for anyone for a few years now.

But when I do start to have feelings it's almost exclusively towards men.

I just have a very low sexual appetite.

Which has generally meant I make partners really unhappy.

So for anyone not in the know, here's a helpful little guide on sexualities. Note that this is not just something some tumblrinas came up with because they're bored - this is stuff that's actually been researched heavily to help better understand our world. The field of gender and sexuality is a new one, but there's already a lot of empirical data, and it's really fascinating. (My MA seminar is actually about gender and sexuality is language, so yes, there's a whole subset of linguistics called sexual linguistics, or sexlinguistics)

So, when talking about sexuality, there's two axes. The first pertains to sexual drive and desire, and though it's a fluid scale, we can distinguish three main orientations.

-allosexual - the vast majority of people are this, with sex being a big part of their lives, their sex drives being pretty high, and then being attracted to people sexually just like that

-asexual - this one's actually hard to really describe, as it's more complex than it may seem at first, but in general these are people who experience little to no sexual drive or attraction; they can have sex or even masturbate, but the joy from that isn't really there;

-demisexual - halfway between allosexual and asexual, demisexuals aren't really attracted to anybody unless they form a really strong bond with them before. Functionally, that really makes them no different from allosexuals, but the sex drive is lower (which explains why I could never wrap my head around how all those people around me kept being so annoyingly horny XD)

And then there's the preference scale.

On one end you have heterosexuals, who are attracted to a gender opposite their own.

On the other you have homosexuals, who are attracted to their own gender.

Bisexuals are attracted to two genders.

Polysexuals are attracted to a few genders (gender and sex are two different things, so there's more genders than simply male or female).

Pansexuals can be attracted to anyone regardless of gender.

A similar scale is used for romantic orientation, which can be a seperate thing from sexual.

Really, it's not hard to educate yourself. If you don't dismiss it and just learn it, you can make someone's day by simply validating their existence and identity
