Yes there is this girl in my class, she is very nice and so far hasn't posted anything racist and/or bigoted on facebook and she's mentioned how she's trying to find friends and it's hard to do and in my head I'm like "YES I TOO NEED FRIENDS"

But then I just can't talk to her beyond saying "nice shirt" and nodding awkwardly

And the semester is almost done so oh well :/

Yes, I've had this quite a number of times in my life. I become fascinated with certain friends and want to hang out with them and talk to them constantly. It lasts a few months, normally, perhaps a bit longer. Sometimes it can blossom into a truly wonderful friendship that lasts for well over a decade. Sometimes it fizzles out slowly over time but the memories and bond remain in rare times we catch up. Sometimes I frighten them off. :') Oops.

When you find that friend that you just love being around, though, and they feel similarly, that kind of friendship is the best friendship life can offer.
