Everyone slates ROTJ for the Ewoks. Why? They were awesome!
People are very accepting of a large Ewok flying in the Millenium Falcon BECAUSE THATS FINE. But as soon as they look too much like teddy bears...

Ewoks are cute, and cuddly, and took down the Empire.
Humans just jelly they didn't have what it take to take down the Empire.
I'm so glad meh was an option.

Ewoks are great.
No strong feelings either way. It was neat to see a 'humanoid' alien species who weren't just average people in minimal prosthetics. The fact that they're primitive arboreal creatures also adds a nice layer of 'alien-ness'.
They played a role in fighting off one unit of Imperial soldiers, so there's that, but it's hardly fair or accurate to either criticise or praise them for "defeating the Empire".

I loved their two movies when I was a little boy but it's been over 20 years since I've seen either of them.

Never saw the big fuss about them. I don't like them or hate them. They are just creatures that exist in the Star Wars universe. I understand why people think it is lame, but even as a kid I understood the film makers were using the "unlikely primitive dudes overcome technological guys" trope. I say this with the belief that Return of the Jedi is the weakest of the Original Trilogy, but the Ewoks have nothing to do with that.
