Why is the Blue Mage and Dragoon combined into one class?

Ever since FFX I've always thought of Dragoons to be Blue Mages. My bad I misjudged the class. They should be separate but for FFX sake we will keep it as it is.

And so FFX ruins everything again...

The best blue mages are sabre-wielders, just so you know, for future reference.
