RM - This is one of the games where they truly do shine, unlike FFV where they were just a waste of time. In my party they are the glue that holds the F __ WM BM formation together, thus making them the most important.

WM - No good party should be without one.

Fighter - More of a necessity than anything else, the protec and also atacc.

BB - For players with balls.

BM - Irritatingly weak and none of his truly useful spells work on the NES (I have a conspiracy theory about that) but sometimes you just need those attack spells. I prefer to give my RM mostly white magic so this guy still is useful to me.

Thief - Terrible. I can't stand putting up with him before class change and afterwards I just keep wondering why I didn't just pick another Fighter. He lets you run quicker and saves you a bit of money so I guess that is cool.
