Eggnog can be both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Most recipes include the bourbon or dark rum and then say omit the alcohol if you don't want it. Indeed, the alcoholic version looks to be very popular on your side of the pond.
I've never had this delightful looking drink though and I've decided I'm going to make a batch this Christmas! I'll make both versions so people can choose. I'll probably stick to the bourbon-laced one though. Let the carnage ensue!
