Maybe I didn't explain myself thoroughly enough - I didn't want it to be remade full stop.
An action-rpg sequel to Advent Children, now that would be exciting. New storyline, new characters(potentially).....but that wouldn't sell as many copies as the FF 7 remake.
I get that you're tired of the argument, and I fully understand. I get tired of hearing things that I don't agree with, but that's why debate and forums exist.
Fox got things summed up very well -
When FF 10 came out, I didn't hear people saying "I've had enough of turn-based battle systems". The game sold well, and got great reviews. FF 10 is even one of my least favourite of the series.
But lets face it, Square got greedy.
They "cracked" the Western gaming market with FF 7, and proceeded to have massive success with 8-10.
However, they had their eye on the gamers that didn't like turn-based battle systems - in pursuing those gamers, they lost some of their core audience. You can't have it all Square.
Fox brought up Pokemon - the Gen 6 games have sold in combination almost 25 million copied worldwide. Square would love that kind of success. They used to have it before they started alienating a lot(admittedly not all) of their fans.
