Cloud's the most interesting character in the game.
Barret is the best developed side character.
Aerith is cute.
Tifa is cute and I sympathize with her wallflowerness.
Yuffie is awesome in battle. Who needs Omnislash anyway?
Vincent has more Plot to him than most everyone else.
Cid is okay I guess.
Red XIII is okay I guess
Sephiroth had potential but it was largely squandered by inconsistent writing.
Cait Sith is Cait Sith.
Zack is that noob who got owned by Sephiroth in three seconds the nkilled by Shinra mooks, right?

Generally I've heard the term used to refer to extremely shy women. Or maybe I was thinking of shrinking violet.

In any event, Tifa is the very typical "cannot spit it out" type. She loves Cloud as is abundantly obvious but damned if she ever had the courage to come out and say it. She's very meek and passive in all things Cloud.

Which is funny because Cloud was the same way when they were little.

Cid was my favourite when I originally played the game as I found him hilarious. As I've gotten older, his relationship with Shera doesn't sit well with me at all. Nanaki would get the nod for me now as a favourite character. I know there are others with more development but I loved his back story with Hojo and Cosmo Canyon. Plus I love using him in battle.

Cid by far. I love how he was forced to give up his dream, in order to do the right thing. Great plot thread. His nasty comments, and potty mouth that rivals Barrett add to him as well. The best thing about him is how he doesn't give a crap about political correctness. Making fun of "fat man Palmer", and constantly degrading Shera. A very flawed and extremely entertaining character. Now sit down and drink your GODDAMN tea!

Next I'd go with Barrett and Aeris(FFVII version only, I hate "mother" Aerith).

Tifa's very much the heart of the story for me.
Look forward to seeing how they remake her. I guarantee they had a conference at Squenix one day where the entire topic of discussion was just "So what we doing with the boobs?"
