As I said in the other thread, having vague-ish year-long goals (like 'lose X pounds', 'quit smoking', 'be nicer to people') are almost always doomed to fail. People can achieve these things much more reliably if they set clear immediate milestones (like 'lose 3 pounds in January', 'smoke only one pack this week', 'compliment 10 people this week') for themselves that help them attain the higher overarching goal.

With that in mind, I have many goals for this week, next week, and next month, which I won't detail here, but I do have 2 overarching 2016 goals: get my yard landscaped, and have a deck built in my backyard. Those are two major (and costly) goals so to achieve it I am setting a 'resolution' for this month to come up with a list of potential contractors and then in early January to get at least 3 contractor estimates scheduled (preferably completed but will depend on availability). The February goal will be to select contractors and then we'll go from there. I'd love to have the yard done by summer time so my kids could play in their new yard.
