Finally. I loved this game so much, maybe can get through the entire game without a memory card going bad at least once. Always had to save the game on two different cards because one of them would inevitably corrupt all its data at some point 20+ hours in.

I understand your pain. I bought Final Fantasy IX four times because I always ended up with a least one scratched disc.

Hopefully without memory restrictions they can open up the endgame and let you revisit towns and put side missions in them.
    Kefka's coming, look intimidating!
    Have a nice day!!

That would be a dream come true. Not played this in years and would be a good time to revisit!!

I was playing Record Keeper just last night and hadn't been on EoFF or the gaming news sites I visit very much at all in the past few weeks. I was just thinking "Damn, I wish they would hurry up and find a way of doing a FFIX PC version. They could have had one programmer sitting there and re-writing the source code in the time they've had, it'd be a lonely and tiresome task but worth it for sure!"

I am very much looking forwards to this, hearing Melodies of Life in that trailer literally just made me all nostalgic in a very major way, one which I really did not expect. 9 was one of those entries that when I first played it I didn't like then I played it a second time, slower, taking my time to explore more and fell in love. The one feature I never fell in love with however was Tetra Master, god damn the randomness of that mini-game.. everytime I thought I had a grasp on the rules it'd do some BS that stumped me.

Never gonna happen. I'll be surprised if they even do bug fixes.

I hate to say it but Mirage is right. We're talking this will be a direct port with a graphics uplift and some achievements for completing simple enough challenges/tasks thrown in.

To be honest, I would say 9 is possibly more deserving of the remake treatment than 7 (heretical I know, but hey I think there's a couple of better entries out there than 7 despite the fact that I love FF7).

However, a PC release on steam does make it much easier to make third party mods and patches for the game. Maybe there will be mods available to open up certain areas and add some abandoned content?

It means you can turn off random encounters.

There's always hope that they have the original assets before being compressed into the original engine. Because man, that stuff is beautiful at higher resolutions.

Those renders are certainly pretty. I'm having a hard time telling how high res that is compared to what's in the game, though. The shots there seem to be of the entire area, of which only a small frame is viewed on screen at any given time. I find it hard to tell how much of each of those images would be stretched to fill my entire screen at a time.

If it's anything like how FFVII did it, they basically slice up those renders (along with compressing them) and put it back together in the engine through code. It seemed rather convoluted the way they did it, so maybe they'll be too lazy.
