Noob question

The only convoluted thing is getting it on so many different consoles.

In an era where everything is a franchise, I don't think it's possible for anything to be too big. Really, the story isn't hard to keep up with if you play them in order, so rereleasing them in such compilations was really the best course of action.

I miss the earlier entries when things were somewhat self-contained.

Really, what's wrong with more Kingdom Hearts games? How exactly are there too many if they've all been satisfying in gameplay at least? Hell, no one would complain if FFs were released with such consistency both in time and in quality, so why do people have so much of a problem with Kingdom Hearts doing it? Persona 4 has like fifty sequels and thirty animated adaptations now, Assassin's Creed is releasing a new game every month or so, AA has its sixth entry in development with a bajillion spinoffs everywhere, and yet KH is the one becoming too bloated? I really can't understand how that is. Seven games released in the West over the course of 13 years is not too much.

Yeah if it's not your cup of tea to have a large series, you probably don't follow other large series. That's okay. KH is still great for those who do enjoy larger series. I personally like long series because it means I get more games that I enjoy the story of! Hence why I like Final Fantasy haha. Even though they have different plots, at the core they are similar.

The only problem I have with it is that I need three (not counting PS4 for KH3) different platforms to be able to play all games that are relevant to the main story. This problem is partially alleviated by the HD ports, but it's still annoying to me.

Without the HD remakes, you'd need more!

Let's see... If you don't count the remakes, then you need:

- a PS2 for KH I and II
- a GBA for Chain of Memories
- a DS for 358/2 Days and re:coded
- a PSP for Birth by Sleep
- a 3DS for Dream Drop Distance

And now you only need a PS3 and PS4 for the complete experience. I'd say it's a good deal.

I never contested that the remakes weren't good deals, but as the games came out I was just annoyed by the fact that like 50% of the story was on consoles I didn't have and had no real interest in having. apart from maybe that one single game.

I generally don't like portable consoles a lot. To me they are nothing but necessary evils for when I'm not near a proper console or PC . When I am at home, I probably don't even play on my 3DS for 30 minutes over the course of a month, even if I have 4 games to finish on it.

Yes, it was terrible that they put them on so many platforms. Even Tetsuya Nomura hated the idea, but that's what the execs wanted. So then they compiled the stuff so that people could actually experience the whole story.

You still can't actually *play* some of the games with the HD collections! I have both of the collections anyway. I found the combat to be lacking whatever was the second game in 1.5. Enjoyed it considerably less than i enjoyed the combat in the first game. Probably because it was designed to work on a portable console!

Eh, I don't care that the majority of the world cannot appreciate the greatness that is Chain of Memories Though any weirdness probably stems from it using an unorthodox system that would have been strange regardless of whether it was played on a handheld or a home console.

Have you played Birth By Sleep yet? People adore that game, and it's a handheld title.
