I've recently started making my way through the series and I am in love. I was wondering what people who've played the series think of it, since I've only really spoken to Pumpkin and Wolf Kanno about it

I can't really vote in the poll yet, since I'm only up to III, but so far III is the best by a landslide. I really can't remember the last time I was so involved in a game world.

So yeah, favorites? Least favorite entries? What do you like about the series?

    Best: IV, V
    Really, really great: III, VIII
    Good: I, VI, VII, IX
    Acceptable: II

I very narrowly voted for IV in the poll.

I feel like VIII evolved the series and was closest to an FF-inspired DQ that it could be, and as such it is my favorite. I also really liked IV-VI.

I really liked IV and VIII. But out of them VIII is the one I still play the most.

Ooh, finally someone mentioned VI! I rarely see anyone say anything good about it on the Internet, which is disappointing, since it sounds like it has a lot of things I would like. Is it just forgotten about because it was released in the West too late?

Probably. I love the dual world concept, and the class system and plot are very positive aspects.

I've been really interested in trying out Dragon Quest for a few years now, but still haven't played any of them. I have IV, V, VI, and IX on DS. I also plan on getting VII and VIII when they come out on 3DS. Unfortunately when I bought all the DS Dragon Quests, life got too busy to actually play them, but I'm thinking about starting one up after I finish Xenoblade.

I actually wanted to try getting the first one on my phone, but my phone is too new and Square Enix isn't very good about supporting newer versions of Android/IOS I've found. It kind of sucks.

Edit: I'll probably try out the Gameboy release of Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 whenever I get around to the originals.

I don't know, it was fine and I enjoyed it, I just didn't enjoy it nearly as much as some others.
