Square Enix are offering a photography student the prize of a $10,000 scholarship if they take part in their competition #EverydayHeroes. The competition has been inspired by their episodic release, Life is Strange, and budding photographers are encouraged to take a photograph of everyday people leading everyday lives in a bid to claim the top prize.
The event is linked to their Twitter hashtag drive, #EverydayHeroes, in which users have shared stories on Twitter of how they have “overcome adversity, stood up for what’s right, or helped a friend in need”. The Twitter event was to help aid and fundraise for Anti-Bullying charity PACER. By the end of the fundraising event, Square Enix donated a massive $25,000 to the charity.
Life is Strange is an episodic game which follows Maxine Caulfield, a photography student, as she uncovers a story with her new found ability to rewind time and change events of the past. During the second episode of the game Maxine helps out Kate Walsh, a fellow student, with bullying. Square Enix have made good use of the Life is Strange themes as the 'face' of their campaign, and the inspiration of the competition.
The Everyday Heroes website has stated this about the competition;
It is brilliant to see Square Enix reaching out to their community to make a change in the world, and ultimately to change one very lucky persons life. Celebrating the heroes who go unnoticed and unappreciated everyday in a way that captures them in timeless art. Life is Strange had some very heavy subject matter and it's so refreshing to see something from the Video Game medium being used to inspire and save lives. The contest will run until February 16th, and appears to only be open to those in America. Get submitting!Who is your Everyday Hero?
