    Default Marche's decision

So I'm replaying this for the first time in forever, let's get some discussion going!

Marche's decision regarding the fantasy Ivalice, yay or nay?

    Yay, of course.

I mean, what's the point in living if your life is all just a lie and you decide to not face reality? We all have to deal with it someday, and it's good to have a friend that will remind you of that when you forget yourself.

I will say that I largely agree with you. My main gripe is that I'm not sure that one individual should be making such decisions for a larger group.

It is an interesting moral dilemma they threw in there~

    Nay.

As I pointed out Here, I think that, by leaving, Marche and his friends wipe out the entire population of the world.

It may have been healthier for them, personally, but it was worse for everyone else.

Yay, as I don't feel the Ivalice of FFTA is real and I agree with Fynn that the game is meant to be an insightful examination of the Lotus-Eater Machine trope. Only Matsuno would have the balls to make a game about the dangers of escapism.

Though to be fair, he does convince Ritz, Doned and Mewt that this is the right thing to do

But what about everyone else in the world? What happens to Montblanc, Nono, Shara, or the millions of other people who don't get any say in what's going on?

Not real feelings, surely. Plus, Montblanc was super supportive of Marche anyway

No one murdered anyone. Marche leaving the imagined Ivalice can mean one of two things. 1) That world was make believe and all characters were a creation of the children's imaginations mixed with what they saw in the book, or 2) if those people were all real, it's more likely they lived on in their own world, or came back to St.Ivalice if they really were thrown there.

Frankly, since Matsuno has pretty much confirmed variant 1 is true, there's actually another point that the game makes, when you think about it. We love fictional characters, we feel their pain, and we learn from their struggles, and that's good, but in the end it's important that we remember that they are fictional, no matter how much we empathize.
