Dancing Chocobo Ramza finally arrives in Dissidia

Famitsu recently gave the world a sneak peak of a new character in Final Fantasy Dissidia, Ramza Beoulve. Ramza was actually announced the same time the new Dissidia got an official announcement and he will serve as the first new "update" character to join the game as well as being the second new character announced for the title behind FFXIV's Y'shtola.

While nothing has been confirmed about his fighting style or abilities, we can easily see that Ramza received a new redesign by Tetsuya Nomura like the rest of the FF roster. Ramza's design is based off his Chapter 1 outfit, which is featured the most in his official artwork from the game's original run.
Ramza is also the first character in Dissidia to not hail from a numbered entry, but instead a spin-off. No word on whether he'll have a corresponding Chaos character from his game.
Ramza Beoulve is the main character from the 1997 cult hit Tactical RPG, Final Fantasy Tactics. The youngest son to the famous house of Beoulve, Ramza grew up with his best friend Delita in the shadow of his family's prestige and reputation. In his academy days, he is tasked with helping the army stop the peasant revolt against the Death Corp and their leader Weigraf. In the course of his adventure he saw the cruelty and selfish power grabs of the ruling elite and watched helplessly as his friends sister was murdered in front of him by orders of his own kin. Ramza chooses to become a mercenary and changes his name to distance himself from his family but soon finds himself once again caught up in a power struggle known as the The War of the Lions opposing his one time friend Delita and the secret manipulations of the Noble Families and the Chruch of Glabados.
Ramza will officially debut in Dissida in February in Japan's arcades. No word on Dissidia being ported for console or the arcade machine released outside of Japan at this time.

He's voiced by Phil Lamarr, no less

I wonder if his other outfits make it into the game.

Given how important playing dress up is to JRPGs these days I don't doubt we will be seeing other outfits.

Glad to see FFT recognition, though I'm almost afraid of them including Delita for Chaos in the future. The ambiguity of his character is what makes him great, and SE doesn't do subtle too well these days.

Fighting games always had alt outfits, and Dissidia is no exception.

Also, this game doesn't seem to feature any Chaos heroes, and the new guys in 012 did t get any chaos counterparts either, so Ramza might get no one. He'd get Ultima if he did, I bet

There's no ambiguity with Delita. He's one of the most selfish, evil sociopaths in the entire Final Fantasy franchise. Perfect fit for a Chaos character.

I actually feel Weigraf would be the next choice that isn't Delita.

Who ended up making an Ivalice a better place and freeing Ivalice of the more selfish and evil nobles who started the war.

By ruling with an iron fist and locking innocents away for their entire life.

Or have you forgotten Orran Durai?

You can't deny the moral ambiguity of Delita, Sky. Why would you just willingly forget by the events that drove him to his ambition, the way he faces severe discrimination despite the protection from Barbaneth, and the fact that he actually did rid Ivalice of a lot of corrupt individuals and was in fact remembered as a good king who led Ivalice into prosperity.

Yes, he was selfish, and manipulative, but a lot of people who did good things are, and sometimes that's what is necessary to really make things right. Saying he's an out-and-out villain simply because he was a sociopath really doesn't do the character nor the complex story justice. There's a reason the anti-hero and anti-villain tropes exist.

What I'm saying is, you have the full right to hate him, but he is in no way the villain of the game.

On topic, I don't think Delita would be the chaos equivalent, as he and Ramza didn't fight against each other even once.

You mean how when he encountered a moral person who go in his way he didn't kill him, which is completely out of character with how he deals with everyone else? I can't see a single reason for Orran to be alive except for Delita's benevolence.

The fact that it can arouse such passionate debate after all these years showcases how well the character was done.

Weigraf would be a good choice for a Chaos counterpart. Though if they wanted to make someone who fit in better with the baddies they could chose Dycadarg.
