Default Why are DCs headed to the small screen, while Marvels are on the big screen?

Lately, all of the DC Comics superheroes are headed to the small screen, while Marvel superheroes are headed to the big screen. Why is that?

They're making plans for a DC Cinematic Universe as we speak. Just this year we're seeing the release of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. A Wonder Woman movie is already being worked on, and they plan to follow it up with a Justice League movie. After that there are more solo films being prepared in hopes to compete with Marvel.

The TV shows were already there before this and have been more successful (because frankly the writers there have put more heart into them) and have been expanding that because of the current superhero craze. Nothing is preventing the other from being.

Yeah, there's like a bunch of DC movies planned starting with BvS this year. DC was just a little late getting into the game. Marvel's being owned by Disney probably really helped it get off the ground with its cinematic universe. DC continued to put out movies but not with all the tie-ins Marvel had so it just seems like they had a lot fewer. They also were probably waiting to see how successful Marvel's model would be before they committed to a lot of films.

You know, I don't see any merchandise for Supergirl, The Flash, or Green Arrow in stores. If they were movies, they'd probably have a lot of merchandise about them, especially for kids. I see tons of merchandise based on Spider-man and the Avengers (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk) in stores for kids, but I don't see any merchandise for DC superheroes other than Superman and Batman. I'd like to see action figures based on Supergirl, the Flash, and Green Arrow, and perhaps backpacks for kids with those characters on them.

I'm talking about products based on the shows, not on the comics themselves.
