This may have been addressed in one of the millions of sequels and prequels and whatever, but I haven't played them, so I don't know

Im gonna run with that they became friends through work. something about their relationship has this air of similarities met through a troutty job. you ever made friends with someone cause you both werent too fond of the same job? theres a certain bond there

yeah i believe they're the J.D. & Turk of FF VII...
FF VII predates Scrubs so that is either coincidence or someone writing for Scrubs really likes FF VII...
I think they met in training or at work. Never really thought about it...
