Even when FF was good I never cried at it. The stories are good and have emotional moments but the style of delivery has muted the emotional impact.

Well The Last of Us was the last game to make me shed a tear and it was absolutely awesome, so if they do it right then I'm all for it.
I don't think a video game ever made me cry, honestly. Sure, I've felt sad when Aerith died and stuff, but I never really cried. So I'm not sure if XV is going to change that.
I've never literally cried at any media that I can recall. I like that they are aiming for emotional resonance tho. Aerith dying in VII or Tidus disappearing in FFX definitely had an emotional impact on me very few games have. Last I can recall was The Witcher 3 and before that the end of The Last of Us. '
Games really don't do that kind of thing anymore, especially Final Fantasy with everything after X. SE used to masters at it. In all honestly the gameplay of FF XV could be trash and I'd still consider if one of my favourite games of all time if the characters are amazingly crafted and it makes me feel for them and their plight the way VII, VIII or X did.
Honestly, there isn't a game I've played that even comes close to the narrative in The Last of Us. Only that and FFVII have made me emotional enough to cry.
Do I think FFXV can match it in character development and storytelling? No.
Do I think FFXV has the potential to be the best FF game since FFVII? Absolutely!
This is the most excited I've been for an FF game since FFX.
I am pretty excited by this assertion, I love some good tragic moments (or truly wonderful and happy ones like FF9). All the best JRPGs have made me at least a bit teary in the end. I hope they manage it.
It's been since Final Fantasy X that I've been surprised or truly been into the emotional state of a characters mindset, so I'm not sure if FFXV will do the trick or not. FFVII didn't really move me much, nor did anything in FFXIII. I believe the closest to FFX's ending was a death in Final Fantasy V that I wasn't expecting. Hopefully FFXV can be a tad bit more personable.
