So, after having my mom's computer nearly hijacked by Windows 10 with it's new, even more forceful "please upgrade, oh wait, we're not giving you a choice", I'm shifting away from Microsoft and Windows. I don't like all the reporting and data collection it does, and I don't like Microsoft choosing when to update my system (especially since, in the past, plenty of their updates have been incompatible with my setups).

I've never used Linux before, though. I have no idea how easy it may be to install or run. But I'd rather have it as an OS than Windows at this point.

Any advice you guys can give me on how it runs, how easy it is to install (it'll be on a new machine, I'm upgrading in a couple months, which means it would be Windows 10 if I used a Windows OS), etcetera, I'd appreciate it.
