Well damn, it's been a while since I've played any FF, so I'm bound to get them mixed up, but something about VI's made me not as interested in learning all of them.

It's most likely the fact that all of Stargo's really good spells are obtained in the WoR when you start getting all of the better magic upgrades. Not to mention Grand Train is easily his best blue spell and one of the easiest to obtain for him, making the whole ordeal to get his other spells a moot issue.

The burden of previous knowledge is so great that unless you made it unmissable or tutorial-levels of obvious, who cared? Most Blue Magic sets are crazy overpowered, but the biggest problem is that you have to get hit (and usually survive), assuming that you even know that those spells existed in the first place.

Also, most FF games are balanced around not having access to any of these spells. Only time I used Blue Magic on a first playthrough was in FFX, because it gave Kimahri his Overdrive immediately when you learned a new one.

Would Gau be the ultimate blue Mage considering he can use every monster tech?

It depends of the game, but in general, I don't really use them.

This one! That's why I rarely (or even don't) use Kimahri in FFX.
I'd want to play a game where Blue Mages are actually useful.

"Copycat" skills are nice, but I'd rather use the Red Mage, if I had the chance.
I just love their versatility! They perfectly reflect my personality.
