:monster: Do you ever use Blue Mages?

Blue Mages are that kind of weird, quirky mage who use monster moves. I think they're often overlooked or forgotten about. What do you think of these odd sorts?

    Depends on the game~

Kimahri and Quistis are pretty lame blue mages, for example, as their skills are relegated to limit breaks, which is just a stupid-ass decision

In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, though - that's another story. With a balanced stat pool and the greatest selection of abilities, the Blue Mage can become the best job in the game if you go out of your way to get all the blue magic spells.

    Depends on the game.

    Breath of Fire III? Yes.

    Some Final Fantasy's? Yes.

Other Final Fantasy's? Not as much.

I'm not a fan of blue mages really at all.

Quina was actually really good in the FFIX Mod I just played.

And while Quistis' Blue Magic is restricted to Limit Breaks...this is FFVIII we're talkingabout here. Limit Breaks might as well be just another move.

All the time, except for Kimahri. Mighty Guard and White Wind are two of my favorite abilities in the series.

I find most Blue magic pointless (eg: Doom, Roulette and where the enemy has to be a certain level). I only like 1000 Needles, White Wind and Mighty Guard type magic. I'm much more of a White Magic kinda gal. What i will say is that Final Fantasy 7 has the best Blue Magic/Enemy Skill in my opinion followed by 5 , I dont care for FF9's so much (White Wind isnt curative enough in the later stages and Mighty Guard wears off)

I never really did in the past, but starting to try them as I play now to add something new to the series. However you need a beastiary beside you it seems when you do experiment with them.

Yeah, Quistis is better than Kimahri because Limit Breaks are spammable. All you have to do is have a character in the yellow or near the yellow and repeatedly press triangle until the Limit Break shows up. Quistis's Degenerator is one of the most op spells in the game. It takes too much work to use Kimahri's. You get a free overdrive every time you learn a new one, but any time after that it would be a while and you don't get double overdrive until you're about at the end of the game.

Strago in VI was so so. I still used it, but I didn't bother to try and learn all of them. X-2's I liked because they were combined with another class, but it too was a bit hard to learn spells. It required to be hit by it like in VI and I recall the big shelled enemy having a good one, but it would pretty much kill you, so you have to die to learn it.

FFV - I only played once and I don't think I tried to invest in it a lot, so that only makes VIII and IX the only games where I really liked it, with X-2 being behind it.

In VI Strago only needed to see them for him to learn them.

All of the time since they're my favorite mage class. Even Quistis and Kimarhi get action from me occasionally until I remember the other characters are better.

Yeah, the only games where you actually have to be hit and survive the battle to learn Blue magic are: V, VII, X-2, XI, and TA series.
