    Default Jenova and The Ancients

That Jenova (SPOILER) wiping out The Ancients that way

I find this a very interesting origin story.

    Thoughts?

Why does Jenova and the Ancients sound like a classic retro 80's rock band ? 8D

FF VII's story confuses me a little, so apologizes way ahead if I've got this way wrong, but it is a little creepy and disturbing with her shape shifting and then her almost wiping out the whole entire race. I would imagine that she would've been a highly trusted friend and local to some Ancients. Maybe even a lover to some poor naive Ancient. What is even more disturbing, that there is alot of people like this in reality, expect there's no creepy monster appearance.

I like to imagine that there was no intermediate time of peace between her arrival and destruction. She came as a virus, and immediately began to destroy what she found. It would be interesting to learn more about what she really was before her arrival on the Cetra planet, and if there's more of them out there somewhere.

    Both are interesting points.

And maybee, I also find parts of FF7 creepy. The art, the music.....brrrrr. Jenova is one of the creepy things. Yet, its still my favourite FF. It only has the odd creepy moment.

There is not much to say about JENOVA. It is a purely instinctively acting, yet highly intelligent alien life form. It is a chameleon, using its abilities to trick its surroundings, making them believe what is necessary to get what it wants in the end. And that's really it. A highly misunderstood lifeform in the franchise. The best thing we got from this thing was an actual individual form of what it represents - JENOVA's son as well as the symbolic "return" of the battle of the two races when Sephiroth and Aerith came into play.

It's too bad that FF7 didn't go into depth on the details of the ancients and the Cetra. Maybe the remake will take time and delve into that more. Other than that, I guess the ancients had vast power that would make them seem as though they were gods. Sephiroth being the example.

The Ancients were the Cetra and Sephiroth is not a Cetra. He has the cells of a being that just mimiced their form.

So was Sephiroth just some souped up clone of the Ancients that was abnormal?

He is not a clone of the ancients.

Sephiroth is the son of Professor Hojo and Doctor Lucrecia Crescent, two biogenetic scientists and got JENOVA cells infused in a very early state of mitosis which made him the perfect result of Jenova Project: Sephiroth.

JENOVA is an alien lifeform of unknown origin. It is NOT a Cetra.

In other words, he was a result of a mutation bred project.

Indeed. They wanted a Cetra hybrid and got something way more powerful and way more deadly.

Did they plan on Sephiroth becoming emotionally and mentally unstable?

No, they just wanted him as a tool to find the Promised Land and also fight as their strongest SOLDIER. Sephiroth stumbled over the partially false documents after concluding that he was not just an extraordinary human. Actually after that Sephiroth himself became almost completely emotionless. Very similiar to JENOVA which is also emotionless. Really the only emotion Sephiroth shows is his joy of showing his over-poweredness which is triggered through the inner grudge he holds against Cloud, a mere ShinRa grunt, for embarassing him by actually defeating him, the strongest of all.

What is Cloud and why was he so strong that he was able to over power Sephiroth in the crater? I never truly understood that. Did the Mako poisoning have anything to do with that?

Cloud was a normal boy from Nibelheim. His physical and mental conditions were too low to join SOLDIER. He then became a ShinRa Grunt. And when Sephiroth destroyed Nibelheim he killed Cloud's mother, seriously injured Tifa and Zack, et cetera. That awoke an inner power inside of Cloud. That typical cliche "you can overcome everything if you fight for the ones you love" power. This power was what we wielded against Sephiroth. He surprised him and defeated him. Then when they destroyed his newborn form, the One-Winged Angel Sepher Sephiroth, his mind has been sent into the lifestream by Sephiroth himself as Cloud became a Sephiroth Clone after the Nibelheim incident ("clone" here refers to people who got those cells injected) and therefore was bound to Sephiroth's will that echoed through his subconsciousness. He did the same thing again, just that this time he did not fight Sephiroth physically but in his purest form and with Sephiroth's strongest weapon: His will/consciousness that is even powerful enough to withstand the lifestream. He defeated him. Sephiroth got weakened and therefore was about to get a bit dragged away by the lifestream. However, he did not want to accept the next step after death. Because in Sephiroth's eyes the next step is non-existence, the ultimate destruction of the very self and individual, other than Aerith who was aware that returning to the planet actually meant entering a new state of existence. Sephiroth did not want to fade away as the person he was, therefore as safety rope he gave up a bit of his self and even forgot who he was while connecting his very essence to the memories of people in whose mind he would live on. This way, no matter how much he would fade away, he would be able to restore his self again. After forgetting a bit of what he was, even how he looked like, he wanted to tell Cloud of his new plan to corrupt the lifestream. However, no longer knowing what he looked like he found the shape of 3 dead people in the lifestream that could not accept death, souls, that were perfect for him to darken the lifestream. He connected his very essence to them and manifested them a new body through Geostigma. And as they were their own individual beings but deep within also a part of Sephiroth they got the desire to reunite that Sephiroth wanted to use. They did not know that they would destroy themselves by reuniting as they did not know how they were connected to Sephiroth but one thing was for sure: He would come back through the reunion. And so, bit by bit, while wandering around with their bodies, through the memories of others he once again found who and how he was and when Kadaj fused with the JENOVA cells, Sephiroth used the shapeshifting and reunion power he inherited from JENOVA to reshape a body 1:1 to his original one and was able to animate it with his very soul once more. As Sephiroth linked his existence to others now he knew the destruction of his body would now make even less of a difference as before so he vanished again, this time with the words "Watashi wa ... omoide ni wa naranai sa.", which means he will not just be a memory, appropriate to his plan.
