Default FFIII Protagonists: Better as generic heroes or with personalities?

Which version of the FFIII heroes did you like more? The more blank slate party or the party with adorable Arc. And the rest of them, I guess.

Giving them characterization in the Remake did very little for the game, it would have been better to just leave them as generics. Still love my Rock Star team I did for the Famicom version.

They were all recolors of each other in the original and that was boring. In the remake the classes each had their own flare and were distinct from one another.

I don't care either way. The generics kinda do nothing, but at least you can name them and let your imagination do the rest. The remake kids have some personality, but their characters and story arcs are tacked on and super lame, so really, I don't love either option.

Agree, the FF3 remake characters are rather basic and simple and forgettable.

When I play the American NES translation I usually name the boys after the Beatles members, lol - John, Paul, George and Ringo.

For some reason those names work perfect with the jobs Fighter, Monk, White Mage and Black Mage.
Maybe it's just me, but for example, the name "George" just fits the White Mage role so incredibly well, and "Ringo" works great for a Black Mage.

Personally I am not particularly fond of remakes in general - I feel like they are often made just to cash in on the original title, rather than actually making necessary improvements.

One game that I would love to see remade is Silver Surfer for the NES - that game seems to have potential as a good space shooter, it just has a handful of annoying problems that kind of ruin the game, like for example the huge Silver Surfer sprite, the limited movement on overhead stages, the lack of an autofire button and the ambiguous foregrounds and backgrounds.
If those relatively simple things were fixed, then it would suddenly be a fairly good shooter.
The overwhelming number of enemies and the one-hit-deaths shouldn't be huge issues by the way, because most space shooters are like that.

Anyway, if they are gonna remake FF3 then they really should give it the same high-class makeover as FF1 and FF2 on Final Fantasy Origins, with roughly the same graphical style - in fact, I think that a remake like that should be part of the Origins collection.
A collection of the "classic" FF games that only includes FF1 and FF2 and completely ignores FF3 really feels kind of incomplete, and I always found that mildly irritating.

Ah, someone who thinks PS1 did a good job on at least two retro titles. I feel like I've just found the Holy Grail.

I also dislike remakes, I feel like SE have been caving in to pressure from fans as well as trying to make a quick buck. No wonder its taken them so long to bring out a certain new title I won't discuss in this retro forum. I also don't like how they port one remake to the DS and the rest to PS or PSP. That's definitely a cash making scam.
