£20M for Ayew would be OK if Huw Jenkins was going to actually spend it on somebody decent, but he won't and instead we will get a few continental squad players who nobody has heard of for one or two million each, a 33 year old backup striker who will quickly turn out to be absolute toilet and leave next summer, and the rest of the money will mysteriously disappear (probably somewhere in Maryland). As for Ashley Williams, that is just beyond the pale shipping off your captain and best defender four days before the season starts, with no replacement. Amat will have to do a job at centre half but if he gets injured it's very much game over. We still need another right back, centre mid (should have got Allen back tbh) and I'll hold fire on judging Llorente until a few games in.

I've watched the yankee takeover mainly through the gaps in my fingers. Proof positive that collaborative shared ownership of a football club just cannot happen in the modern Premier League. Luckily the Supporter's Trust retain their 21% stake but virtually everything I've read about these two blokes is that they're at best unconcerned about the club itself and its fans, and at worst, a couple of asset strippers. They're not Vincent Tans though, I suppose. I've heard nothing about any money coming our way anyway. We'll see what happens. If you ask me the most pressing issue at the moment is that we still have a guy as manager who probably can't quite figure out himself (let alone the fans) how he is still there. Huw can try to be too 'shrewd chairman who moves in mysterious ways' for his own good sometimes.
