They have a use. It's just a use that can also be fulfilled by a fork.

Eh, not really. Yes, for making scrambled eggs or something the a fork nets you basically the same result as a whisk, but if you try to beat, for instance, egg whites with a fork instead of a whisk then you're going to have a harder time of it and spend a lot longer in doing so. A whisk is better proportioned for the task and more importantly makes better contact when you are working with a bowl that is half full or more.

You misunderstand. A whisk covers a very large area while comparatively a fork covers a very small area. It doesn't matter how big the bowl is, it matters how much of the ingredient you have in the bowl. The more that is in the bowl, the worse a fork becomes for whisking.

The wire whisk that I have is amazing. I prefer it over a fork.

Try whipping cream with a fork then come back to me.

Whisks are awesome. I fail to see how they are useless.

Yeah, the size of the whisk compared to the fork really helps you thoroughly stir ingredients much faster and more efficiently than with just a fork. Sure, in some cases a fork is enough, but in others it just won't cut it, and a whisk will always handle it faster.

Also the fact that whisks incorporate air much fast and efficiently than a fork. This is important in making certain custards/creams when you aerate the egg yolks and sugar.
