did anyone else notice that the "play" at the start of IX is a reference to the opera part in VI where you fight ultros. in both they accidentaly end up on the stage and have to improvise.

I suppose I never thought of it that way, but it makes sense. This game was a throwback to the old games in many ways.
My favorite line of the play was "No Cloud, No Squall shall hinder us!"
Yeah, never occurred to me either! Though, the start of FFIX is the only part I've played. They do seem quite difference in style (I LOVED the FFVI opera scene), my playthrough of FFIX is long overdue.

when you consider everything in IX was a reference to past installments on purpose, the game was advertised and marketed as a tribute to FFs past after all, it's not surprising...
