That wasn't Disney? Huh. I think that film basically turned me off any other live-action rendition of a classic tale since I saw it that one time. It was terrible.

Anyway, The Jungle Book didn't really look bad at all. The film I had in mind was Tarzan. Which also isn't Disney. I think what I've discovered today is that I dislike the majority of non-Disney live-action remakes of classic stories, and I tend to associate Disney with everything. Blame Kingdom Hearts.

But I must confess, I'm also sceptical of this 'live action' Lion King. Like Auly said, the original is incredibly hard to beat. Having said that, I can no longer watch the original any longer because of the amount of times I was forced to watch it at school during 'rainy days' and all that crap, so a refreshing new spin might actually fill that niche for me.

Not super memorable? It's one of Disney's most famous and highly regarded animated films, with two of its best-known songs.

Also, Disney will keep a close eye on how well Beauty and the Beast does next year. If that does great business, they'll be even more confident that The Lion King will as well. In the end it doesn't really matter how good or bad the film is, it's being made to make a ton of money.

I assure you, that is not the case internationally. Everyone here loves the Lion King. I don't think I've ever spoken to anyone in this country who's even seen the Jungle Book.

Maybe Brits just love a bit of Rudyard Kipling, because I would agree with charlie's comments.

We yanks love The Jungle Book too. Honestly I Wanna Be Like You is my #1 favorite Disney song of all time. Fall Out Boy covered it at some point which is fantastic.

As for me I haven't even seen any of these live-action remakes (Except for 101 Dalmatians I guess, back in the 90s) so no opinion from me here!

The song was originally done by Hootie and the Blowfish.

Fun fact: For years I thought that Hootie and the Blowfish were a made-up band as I'd only ever heard of them from that episode of Friends when they go to their concert. Little did I know they were a real live mediocre rock band.

This live action version of The Lion King will not be a patch on the animated version. Disney won't care though. The Jungle Book remake earned them nearly a billion dollars at the box office.

Don't be surprised to see Beauty and the Beast announced next.

That sounds like a nonsense - what are they going to do, cast Hermione Granger as Belle? Pah!

    I'd buy it.

Maybe I'd need to see a "live-action" take on Cinderella first though.

I have absolutely nothing to base this on aside from how a lot of other movies have been filmed in recent years, and I haven't even seen this Jungle Book movie, but I would be willing to bet most, if not all, was filmed in front of a green screen. Hollywood has a habit of doing it even when it is completely unnecessary and objectively looks worse than just doing things for real.

I mean I really enjoyed The Jungle Book, Cinderella, and yes even Maleficent, but like others have said, I just cannot see a "live action" version of The Lion King coming anywhere close to the original. Considering that all the characters in the film are animals, and thus all of them are going to be CGI, it seems like a rather pointless thing to make.

Maybe it's going to be an adaptation of the stage musical and have the changes they introduced in it from the original film (i.e., Rafiki being female)?

Is this a joke because it was announced a long time ago. There's even a teaser trailer and images.

Best to assume that Bubba is always joking. That goes double for when he says he's being serious. If he's ever said that anyway. Honestly can't remember if it's ever happened.

    Vivi knows me very well.

    I don't think I've made a serious post on here since 2013.
