    Relm Scrapped Characters and Events for Final Fantasy VI Surfaces

    Someone compiled some old interviews about Final Fantasy VI. There was going to be another character along with some other good stuff. Check out these quotes and the full interview below.
    During the development, for the Tzen event in the World of Ruin, originally if the time ran out, Sabin would actually die! Then if you came back to Tzen with Edgar in your party, it would trigger a scene with Edgar wandering forlornly around Tzen in the middle of the night, searching through the rubble in vain for his brother… “I’m coming to save you!” But we decided that the World of Ruin already had more than enough dark stories, and changed it for the final version of the game. For Sabin fans, it’s a good thing we did!
    During the development, there was another character named Angela, who acted like a stereotypical “big sister” to Cyan. She wielded a whip. She would half-jokingly flirt with Cyan, and he would always brush off and cringe at her attention, but later when he was alone he’d pause and flatter himself to think it was all true. It allowed us to show a shy, private side of his character. There were never any actual romantic connections between the two of them, though: he remains loyal to his departed wife’s memory.

    Oh smurf, that Sabin one is so depressing, poor Edgar. ;-;

    Kinda wish that Angela got through into the main party instead of Gogo.

    Yeah, some of those old V-Jump interviews are interesting. Thanks for the link

    Terra was also meant to die in the original script as well, she was also a dude in the first drafts.

    Celes was also meant to be an imperial spy who eventually grew to believe in the rebels ideals but this got dropped somewhere in production and saved for Cait Sith in VII. Also Magitek infusion was originally meant to always cause insanity, and so Celes had another subplot where she was dealing with the process that made her causing her to go mad and it was Locke's love for her that saves her ultimately.

    Also, while it's unknown if this was meant to be something significant in the final game and just got dropped along the way, the reason Sabin and Edgar have middle names is because they are their secret names only they know and would only share it with someone they trusted like family. Their creator Soraya Saga went into detail about it with a doujinshi she wrote after the product was finished. She herself has said its non-canon though but it's an interesting idea.

    Also, Umaro was meant to be a random encounter in the WoB you could draw out with the Dry Meat item.

    Gogo also had a more elaborate acquisition method initially. While in the WoR going into towns, you would occasionally encounter Gogo masquerading as one of the party members and you had to catch him in the act of impersonating them by bringing the character he was portraying. Some fans have even speculated that the whole Fake Siegfried story element was meant to be a part of this quest and was just never removed from the game for one reason or another.

    Sounds like she later appeared in FFVIII as Quistis.

    it wouldn't shock me if they did still use her as Quistis. It makes you wonder though what her FFVI special attack would become. Also in VI they had Sabin, Gau, and Cyan make a makeshift family of sorts. How would she have fit into that family? The mother role, or the big sister?

    Probably a big sister style character.

    Why you think so? The only thing they have in common is a whip.

    The big sister thing. Quistis was hung up on Squall for a while and flirty with him, until she later realised she just felt very sisterly towards him. Obviously there are situational differences, but I can see the similarity.
