Actually, this is still faster than Square Enix's last HD Remaster with Final Fantasy X and X-2. They were announced at TGS 2011 and weren't released in Japan until 2 years later in December 2013. The North American release of the game was over 2 and a half years after the initial TGS announcement.
XII: The Zodiac Age was announced in June 2016. So this is just over a year between the announcement and the release.
However, I think this is proof that SE both takes longer to remaster games and continues to announce games far too early. Dead Rising's PS4 remaster wasn't announced until July, and was officially released only two months later in September. Similarly, the Bioshock collection was announced in June and was also released in September.
Ultimately I'm disappointed that Square Enix is suffering from these issues, but I appreciate that there is an improvement.
