Let's Play the BEST GAME EVER!!! (FFIX)

On our way to track down the Black Mages, we run in to another friendly creature!

(SPOILER)

And then we arrive in a strange forest

Basically you walk back and forth until all of the owls fly away. After that, you'll catch up with the Black Mage, who is using magic to show that the apparently dead forest is actually lush and beautiful

We follow him to find that this was covering a special village

This is one of my favourite sections of the game, it's so wonderful

Our arrival, however, is not taken very well by the locals

Vivi is obviously quite excited and runs off to chase the runaway Black Mages. Garnet chases after him, and Quina goes to try and eat a chocobo egg being housed in the village

Vivi meets up with some other black mages

After deciding it's okay to talk to him, Vivi asks how they got here.

When Vivi asks what the place is where they're currently standing, he gets a very straight answer

He also gets a story from Mr. 56 explaining things a bit further

Garnet meanwhile is having some trouble conversing with the locals at first, who don't trust her and think humans are just out to use them. Eventually she wins them over, though

We also find Virgo

And then head over to check on Garnet

She goes out to check for him and we find Vivi running off, obviously upset. We go see Mr. 288 to learn a bit more about the situation

When Zidane answers no, Mr. 288 explains it was the same for him. One day he just became aware

Imagine just waking up one day to find you murdered people. That would be terrifying

We also learn a bit more about what happened since

With a bit of a clue as to why Vivi is upset, we go see him in the Inn

Vivi makes it clear that he doesn't want to talk about it right now by pretending everything is fine, so we decide to call it a day

During the night, Garnet sees Vivi leave alone and gets concerned

Joking aside, Zidane has a more serious explanation of what's probably going on

So what might he be looking for?

This also leads in to a story Zidane has about a man looking for his home

Gee, I wonder who this story is about

Unfortunately, he didn't succeed in finding his birthplace

After that... sad story, we see Vivi has gone back to talk to Mr. 288 again

And thus poor, sweet, innocent Vivi has to start facing the fact that he too will die someday

Maybe someday soon

Mr. 288 himself is still not sure how he feels about dying

Aww

The next morning, we get some intel from one of our new Black Mage friends

Just as the group wonders if Vivi is going to choose to stay here with his fellow Black Mages, he runs up to us

And so we once again embark on our journey after meeting new friends

And getting another letter

Wasn't that a wonderful bit of story?
