Default FFVI vs. FFVII - Battle Themes

So there's this pretty underground hit called Final Fantasy VI. I know some people online who really like it, even saying it's better than universally beloved mega classic Final Fantasy VII. I'm finally playing FFVI to get into the mindset of the niche audience it attracted.

I can't speak on the story and characters too well yet as I haven't beaten it but I do want to comment on the music - and to hear your comments as well.

When it comes to Normal Battle Themes, FFVII has one of the best in the whole series.

VI meanwhile is nothing special at all here IMO. It's not bad but it is unremarkable.

Now when it comes to Normal Boss Themes...I am torn.

I am always pumped for a boss fight in these games for a few reasons but the boss music is a big part of that. They both fill me with a sense of intensity, empowering me to fight harder and concentrate and imagine I too am as badass as my heroes.

And...that's all I got right now.

I prefer the normal Battle Theme of FFVII, but for the Bosses ones, it's always FFVI. Dancing Mad, Battle to the Death and even The Decisive Battle are really memorable for me.

Yeah gotta agree. The battle theme of VI imo is one of the boringest in the series.

Actually nah now I think on I prefer the ffvii boss theme. But apart from Jenova ABSOLUTE, the other boss themes are just alright. Where vi's other boss themes are way better.

I really love FFVI's boss battle theme as well as Dancing Mad, but on the whole I think I prefer VII's battle themes. The Boss Battle theme, JENOVA; hell, I think Birth of a God is woefully underrepresented; it's one of my favorite Uematsu Battle themes and no one seems to talk about it (probably because it's the battle right before OWA). I think the only songs that feel weaker than FFVI are the Weapon Raid and Jenova Absolute... the latter of which reminds me of a less complex Ultima Weapon fight.

Basically, I think they're both amazing, but FFVII has the slight edge for me.

I'd concede that VII has the better Normal Battle and Normal Boss Battle themes compared to VI. VI has the better unique boss battles since I only really like J-E-N-O-V-A and One Winged Angel from VII.

Granted, when it comes to regular battle themes, I prefer the older entries like FFII and III.

FFVII for sure has the best battle theme, but FFVI takes it for the boss theme. I think the harder question would be the final boss between the two.

I would easily pick FFVII for the string of JENOVA Absolute, Birth of a God, and (of course) One Winged Angel. Dancing Mad is fine, but it's like ten minutes long and the best part is at the end.

I haven't played FF6 but I actually prefer its standard battle theme over 7's. 7 had the better boss theme though, at least judging by the ones you posted, plus Birth of a God, J-E-N-O-V-A and of course OWA.

8's Man with the Machine gun beats both standard battle themes, and 10's Seymour Battle beats both boss battle themes.

I thought about mentioning the Seymour fight. Honestly, I LOVE that song. Always weirded me out that it belonged to who amounts to FFX's equivalent of Ultros though (in that, unlike Gilgamesh or the Turks, he's largely irrelevant)
