ZOMG! Dragon Quest XI Announced for the West

Dragon Quest is one of the oldest JRPG franchises debuting in 1986, a full year before Square Enix's other flagship RPG series, Final Fantasy. Dragon Quest XI is officially out in Japan as of today, but series game designer, Yuji Hori, just announced the Western release yesterday morning. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be coming to North America in 2018. Dragon Quest XI will be localized in five languages and will likely release for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS as those are the available platforms in Japan. You can also play the PS4 version on the PSVita via remote play.

It's up in the air if we'll get the odd PlayStation 4 and 3DS combo package that's available in Japan. The PlayStation 4 version is in a full 3D HD environment while the 3DS version has a choice between a 3D chibi version or a classic 2D version. A Nintendo Switch version was announced a while ago, but that version is currently without a date. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the first mainline Dragon Quest game to get a home console release in North America since Dragon Quest VIII in 2005. In similar fashion to the Japanese release of Dragon Quest VIII, DQXI will not have any voice acting. This may change for the US release however since DQ VIII still received voice acting for the North American release. In an official press release Square Enix announced that there will be more information for the Western release this fall. You can check out the Yuji Hori's announcement video below:
