There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying troutty horror movies. This didn't get good troutty to me though sadly. Nothing wrong if it did for you though.

I mean, I also get enjoyment out of bad horror movies. Probably not the kind of enjoyment the creators intended me to have, but...

Anyway, Ryuk was criminally underused. Why was he even there? He did approximately nothing other than laugh dramatically and tell Light Turner to give up the Death Note at every turn. For reasons.

Yeah, again: why am I not supposed to trust Ryuk, exactly?

Also, I wanted dumb, silly Ryuk. Not this evil dude. Also WRITING A SHINIGAMI'S NAME IN THE DEATH NOTE HAS NO EFFECT, NETFLIX.

I can't get over the fact his name is Light Turner. That's an OC self-insert name if I ever heard one.

It was horrible. It felt like watching M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" did.

I've seen worse films. There were one or two good moments. 5/10.

I kinda liked the Ace Attorney movie, which I count.

I've not seen it nor do i have any interest in seeing it.

All I know from what I've read and heard is this:

As a Light fan, it's quite interesting that, in spite of this film's apparent attempt to "humanize" Light and maybe make him more relatable, Light Turner will probably end up with far, far less support than Light Yagami.

They made him more sympathetic but nobody wanted that, not even Light fans. Light has a fanbase because he is charismatic, resolute and ruthless. He is, on the surface, a perfect person. He embodies everything you could really want in your dream potentate. (never used that word before. It's a cool one) Making him wishy-washy or having him pushed round by Ryuk or Misa ruins the illusion of authority and command that is really the foundation for his character.

I tried to watch this, and couldn't get past the first half hour. Have never seen or read the anime, manga, or any of it's adaptions, so it would be a clean slate, but it just wasn't good. Everything just seems super forced, like they're just trying to shovel the plot through. It's a sad, common effect of turning a long series into a short movie, and as good as netflix's series generally are, this would probably better fit into one of those than a movie. Will try getting through it again at some point, but it's not a high priority.

Well, they seem to be giving diverse reviews a fair shake on their Facebook page.

Even if Ryuk did throw the phone after this one:

So I've read the manga and seen all the live action japanese movies and the anime subbed and dubbed. It's one of my favorites. I found the whole thing meh, too rushed to try to fit all the concepts into one movie.

NOW the boyfriend hasn't ever watched any of it, he just said last night that ya know, he really enjoyed that movie. That it wasn't bad.

Maybe we're just bias cause we know the source.

I've never read the manga or seen the anime, and I thought the film was mediocre.
