Default What FF Title Was The Most Difficult To Beat?

I know it may sound silly, but the first one for the nes really made things difficult. Especially those damn ZombieDragons in Chao's joint. I got so frustrated with them and there precious little gas attack I contemplated setting my console on fire. Well..not really, but I'm sure you can understand the frustration.

The Marsh Cave in that game always drove me nuts; the game difficulty suddenly ramps there, and you don't have the spell charges to comfortably make it though the dungeon, nor do you have a ton of potions most of the time. I mean, the Silver Sword is a thing, but still.

As for which one is the most difficult, uh . . . I have the most trouble getting through FF2 and X, but that's mostly for meta reasons, while WoB FF6 or FF9 probably give me the most actual trouble, if only because I've hit the point that I run from just about everything in both games and never really gain any AP or levels.

This will sound stupid but it was FFVIII

The whole reason I joined this site in the first place was for help with this game. I think the levelling system threw me and I didn't fully utilise the junctioning system. On subsequent playthroughs it's been the easiest by far but that first one was a struggle.

VIII was basically my first rpg besides Pokemon, and I couldn’t figure out junctioning. I thought the game was pretty hard.

As for now, all of them are pretty easy that I’ve played. Tactics probably is the hardest since that is the one I’ve played but never beaten because I suck at strategy rpgs.

The original Final Fantasy III for Famicom. While the game is comfortable enough to where you can really experiment with builds, some of the dungeons are nightmares. Goldor's Mansion was especially frustrating because all the enemies have innate ability to inflict confusion with their physical attacks and fighting a group of eight of those smurfers can easily transform into you watching all eight of them plus your whole party beating the crap out of you. After playing the DS version, it was kind of interesting to witness how radically different certain parts of the game can be since the DS version seemed to tone down or remove some of those enemy features.

Second place goes to FFI and FFIV. FFI starts off pretty brutal but once you leave southern continent, it gets much more manageable until the very end. IV tends to spike in difficulty though it varies from version to version. After that, the games don't get terribly difficulty beyond some fake difficulty and the occasional cheap shot here and there.

FFIV (PC version) has a couple of difficult battles who made me struggle a lot. I'd say FFX would be the second, thanks to Braska's final Aeon and Seymour Flux.

FFIII for the insane final dungeon marathon. FFIV DS was also pretty difficult for the first time, but now that I know it better, it's not too bad. III still gives me nightmares, though

I always hear about the ds ffiv difficultly, but I never really found it challenging. Maybe it’s because I never played the US SNES version that was apparently super easy.

Everything about this and more. FF III is just rough and brutal. I admire FF III for creating the Job Class system, but that's about all honestly.

    I. Haven't. Beaten. It. Or II, III, IV, V, or VI. Admittedly, part of this stems from a lack of interest based on a nigh-unconscious prejudice against the graphics and gamplay style of the older games. I haven't beaten XII, XIII, or XV yet either although that's mostly because I get sidetracked trying to go completionist (same problem with Rogue Galaxy) and I just never bothered to pick up XIII for the same reason I never played XI and XIV: didn't have the console I needed.

Square games I've had a legitimate difficulty in completing have been FFT and Vagrant Story.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.
