I like how it's picking up right after the first with no lag time between.

Brad Bird always said he wouldn't do an Incredibles sequel unless he felt he had the right idea/script, hence why it's taken so long. Cars got sequels because of all the merchandise money.

6-8 years ago, I'd have been the conductor of the hype train. Unfortunately, though, I think I'm over it.

Finally saw this film, and it was alright. It had interesting ideas for the roles of men and women, which was played for drama and laughs at times when it came to pursuing career, feelings of inadequacy, and child-rearing. The villain's motivation felt a bit lackluster for me; Screenslaver simply didn't have as memorable a screen presence as Syndrome did in the first film (nor as notable a reveal) even if it was for understandable reasons for the added mystery. Despite the film's length, it felt surprisingly short for me, and I felt like some scenes could've been extended to give the film moments to breathe. As expected, the animation was top notch, particularly the water effects in certain scenes. Cinematography was quite inventive with the way they used specific angles to depict scenes of fear and uncertainty, and the action scenes had a fluid flow to them without too many cuts.

The voice actors did an admirable job even though age was starting to show for some of the actresses which somewhat distracted me during the film given the actual timeline of events between the two films. It was nice hearing Michael Giacchino return to score this film since the last film and how easily he picked up the style he had been using over a decade ago; his development of the leitmotifs was clever in the way they foreshadowed the villain reveal, and the development of the family theme worked very well to depict the family's up and downs before the ultimate resolution and reconciliation.

All in all, the film was an enjoyable ride but didn't quite have the "oomph" I had expected of an Incredibles sequel. They played with lots of intriguing ideas here, but at times it felt like the script could've used some polishing, trimming in places while expanding certain other scenes all the while giving us more of a villain presence especially given the way the rivalry ended up. Definitely worth a watch for fans of the concept although expectations should be kept in check for a more enjoyable experience.

Finally got round to watching this on Monday and it's a perfectly serviceable film that isn't in any way as good as the first Incredibles film but doesn't do it a disservice.

It lacked the full on family dynamic between the four members whereas this felt more like a gender study on how the reversal of power put strain on Mr. Incredible due to Elastigirl's success. It was a decent idea but I felt they could have gone into a little more depth over it.

Also, Screenslaver and the villain were not great. A waste of Catherine Keener.
