She's actually a bit flat as a character goes until the third Disc and even then her spotlight is short lived and runs slightly counter to her portrayal earlier in the story.

I went with Aranea as she was always a highlight when she showed up in XV, and I find her banter to be pretty sexy.

Beatrix is one of the best and most dynamic female characters in the entire series. Bonus points for her being a secondary character at that. She's easily the best character in FFIX. I can't comprehend how someone would say she's "flat".

I can understand her not visually appealing to them. But FLAT?

I'm honestly more dumbfounded here actually, cause she's hardly the best character in FFIX, let alone the best female character in the series. She's basically a female General Leo who comes across pretty mean spirited until you rescue Garnet in Disc 2. She gets some cool moments in Disc 3, but then she kind of fades into the background completely for no reason. She could have been a more prominent figure in the story and like several figures in IX's story, they could have done more with them during the second half of the game.

I'm with Fynn here, I'm not saying she's a bad character, more like "been here, got the T-Shirt" ordeal for her characterization, and I'm often perplexed by how rabid her fans can be considering she's kind of inconsequential to the main narrative overall.

Oh and I totally agree she’s flat. That’s not to say she’s a bad character or one that cannot be enjoyed - after all, a great piece of storytelling has both round and flat characters and uses them well - but she is pretty much there to fulfil a purpose, not have a dynamic character arc. Being an obstacle to you and then performing a heel-face turn, even if she dies express feelings along the way, is not character depth. She’s great for what she is, but she is definitely not a multi-dimensional character. And hats good because the story really isn’t about her nor is more depth to her character needed.

Poor Aranea never stood a chance against Beatrix. We might love our dragoons, but you can't beat the General.
