Attack of the Clones is far, far worse than The Phantom Menace. Every scene between Padme and Anakin is just...awful.

The biggest issue I have with TFA is that at no point do you feel Rey is under any serious threat, she just Mary Sues her way out of everything. Also, what a waste of Oscar Isaac.

She's just following in the footsteps of the likes of James Bond and Indiana Jones (or indeed, every film hero ever), not sure what's 'Mary Sue' about besting the bad guys.

As more of a casual fan I'm excited for IX. I've liked the new trilogy far more than the prequels.

Indiana Jones loses a few times at least. Plus, it's Harrison Ford, why would you want him to lose?

I don't want to come across as somebody who believes Attack of the Clones has any redeeming features whatsoever, because it really doesn't. But Phantom Menace is worse. I always think Attack of the Clones is the worst one until I actually go watch them all side by side again and it's a consistent surprise just how awful Phantom Menace is in every conceivable way. And don't forget - Anakin and Padme were awful, but Phantom Menace had a lot of Jar Jar.

I strongly disagree. The Phantom Menace is a bad movie, but at least it's got some redeeming features. AotC is one of the very worst movies. (RotS also isn't good).

There seems to be a strong revisionist movement going around lately of people trying to convince themselves that these movies were actually good, just misunderstood by curmudgeonly old people and critics. You can find an army of prequel apologists on Reddit. I just think that's ... not the case.

Jar Jar and kid Anakin certainly sink Phantom Menace in popularity, but Liam Neeson and Darth Maul do help the poor film, not to mention the Pod Race scene is visually interesting even if the whole premise of it's inclusion is silly.

AotC on the other hand just has all of those cringy scenes between Anakin and Padme, and dare I say Natalie Portman had more on screen chemistry with Anakin's kid version than poor Hayden Christensen. Not to mention that awful scene where he breaks down in front of her and confesses murdering a whole tribe of sand people which would have been pretty powerful if it wasn't so over the top. Of anything, the acting in AotC pretty much kills that film and even Sir Christopher Lee, Natalie Portman, and Ewan McGregor can't save the film's awful script.
True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.

Is it bad I actually like Attack of the Clones?

Phantom Menace is the real stinker for me.

I have a sentimental attachment to the prequels, because as a kid/teenager they were my Star Wars movies and I didn't really know any better than to watch my Phantom Menace VHS on repeat. With the benefit of hindsight I can see they are poor and AotC is definitely the worst. They do however have some great music, engaging action sequences and a few good performances from some talented actors.

The new trilogy is an improvement, although while they're solid movies they're not all time classics either. Parts of The Last Jedi were just as bad as anything in the prequels (flying space Jesus Leia, incessant "witty" banter, whatever the smurf that casino planet B-Plot was) though I enjoyed the movie overall. Oh, and I like Kylo Ren as a villain and you can suck it.

I don't mind The Last Jedi overall but Leia Poppins is truly probably the worst single scene in any Star Wars film that doesn't involve Anakin's Luststare at Padme

Maybe The Rise of Skywalker is somehow tied to Kylo/Ben? I hope so, at least. Really don't want Rey to be related to any of them. It just cheapens her a character.
