    Smile Good Video Game Movies

We always talk about the crappy VG movies, cause they outnumber the good, but what video game movies.shows do you actually like?

The first Mortal Kombat movie is good in my opinion. It may show its age in places now (not that that's a bad thing), the fights may not look the most ground-breaking (from what I have seen recently/remember) and it did make at least one questionable decision in not allowing Sub-Zero and Scorpion to fight each other, but they clearly made the most of what they had, especially for the time. I honestly think that as long as a videogame movie starts of (in writing/planning) as what this movie was, it's in with a chance - obviously do more than what it did, but this is a good starting point.

I like the Pokémon movies I've seen if they count (they are spin-off movies for the anime, but the anime is a spin-off from the game, so...)

Of the Western examples, I would say Detective Pikachu and Mortal Kombat are probably the best examples from Hollywood. For a lot of Japanese IPs though, anime is kind of the place to go. I still stand by the fact that Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie is one of the best film adaptions of the series. The SFII V series was pretty awesome as well. The Fatal Fury OVA's were also pretty stellar.

As I haven't seen Detective Pikachu yet, the ones that spring to mind are:

    Like A Dragon (Yakuza)
    Mortal Kombat
Street Fighter 2 (the animated version)

That's it. There are a few I love that are pretty bad like Street Fighter and Tekken, but it's a pretty damning list.

I guess Rampage could count, it's dumb as hell but it has monsters fighting, so I'm cool with that.

Detective Pikachu was great. I honestly also enjoy the Mario movie despite it not having much to do with Mario. I liked Mortal Kombat as a kid, but I have trouble watching it now.

I heard the Phoenix Wright movie was actually good, but I never got a chance to watch it. I also think Angry Birds doesn’t look awful all things considered, but again I haven’t seen it.

Mortal Kombat and Detective Pikachu are pretty much it.

DOA: Dead or Alive is a hilariously bad movie like MK and SF
Ace Attorney is actually pretty good
I kinda like that one Silent Hill movie and the first Resident Evil movie (even though it's not really very good)

I once tried to think of a comedy skit where some guy applies for a job with a YouTube link to the Animality fight from Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, but that's about where that idea stopped.

Anyway, the first MK is alright despite the obvious cheese and other problems. It's one of those movies that was fairly impressive at the time it was in theaters, but these days I view it more of a reminder of an ultra specific time and mood in my life.
